Citi Going “Green” with EcoSweepstakes
Sweepstakes is designed to encourage customers to ‘go green’…
Regardless of whether you see it as a company going green, or simply a corporation trying to save money, Citi, one of the world’s largest financial institutions has made a serious commitment to the environment. In a move to encourage their customers to “go green”, Citi has offered any cardholders who sign up for their environment-friendly paperless service an opportunity to be entered in the new Citi ‘EcoSweepstakes’ for a chance to win a hybrid vehicle or other green prizes.
Every cardholder will receive an automatic entry in the sweepstakes for doing things that reduce paper consumption, including enrolling in and actually using online bill payment services or choosing to receive online statements vs. paper statements by mail. Cardholders have an opportunity for a maximum of 9 entries in the sweepstakes. The grand prize winner will get the choice of a new hybrid car or a “green” home makeover. Other prizes include trips to the Lapa Rios EcoLodge in Costa Rica and a year’s supply of organic, sustainably-harvested coffee. The Citi EcoSweepstakes runs through May 14.
To further its green ambitions, Citi will also plant a tree for each new paperless account established in April and May, via The Arbor Day Foundation - for a maximum of up to 100,000 trees per month. “The Arbor Day Foundation is pleased to continue our relationship with Citi to plant trees and make a difference in the world,” said Kevin Sander, director of corporate partnerships with the Arbor Day Foundation. “By planting trees, Citi is helping to make a difference in our environment.” Citi has planted 1.2 million trees in national forests and communities in need since it launched the program last year.
Commenting on the latest initiative, Rob Rosenblatt, executive vice president, Citi Cards, says: “By switching to paperless online services, we are able to offer a green option that’s both effective and meets the needs of our customers.” Hopefully, thousands of tons of paper waste will be reduced and even more trees will be planted through these programs.
