New Mobile Service Offered by MasterCard
Find merchants and ATM locations with your cell phone…
A new trial service has recently been announced by Masterward Worldwide called Mastercard Nearby. Access to a wealth of helpful information including ATM and merchant locations and driving directions will be available to MasterCard card holders when they use their mobile phones. “MasterCard Nearby offers a new way for issuers, merchants and consumers to communicate and strengthen relationships with one another. It also delivers heightened convenience to busy MasterCard cardholders on the go,” said Tatiana Mulry, vice president, Mobile / Wireless Center of Excellence, MasterCard Worldwide.
MasterCard cardholders in the U.S. can sign up for the MasterCard Nearby service by visiting mcnearby.com or calling (877) 877-NEAR. Information can be viewed on the mobile Internet or delivered to a mobile phone via text message. Ongoing access is then available directly on the phone after logging in the WAP site at wap.mcnearby.com. They are permanently logged into the service after their initial visit. MasterCard is actively working to develop customized versions of MasterCard Nearby.
The service was developed in partnership with go2®, the leading mobile, local search and content network in the United States to provide for the growing consumer demand for information over their mobile phones. Consumers have the ability to search for ATMs and merchant locations in the U.S. as well as ATMs in several countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
With mobile home useage exploding from 16 milion in 1994 to more than 194.5 million U.S. subscribers in 2005 and approximately 65% of the total population having a wireless phone service, this new effort by MasterCard is on the cutting edge of the most valuable and useful services available today.
